Session 8 – Entering and Breaking

With all of the Salasans together, Torinn uses his breath weapon against them. This immediately breaks the Charm, and the Salasans return the attack. Fortunately for the party, the flame attack has badly damaged all of them. One Salasan hits Johann with a strange weapon, but it appears to malfunction. The party quickly dispatches all of them.

They search the bodies, retrieve five more of the strange weapons and a good number of coins, and collect the masks the Salasans had been wearing. The weapons turned out to be “tinglers,”; Long Ago weapons that do electrical damage to their target and have a chance of setting it on fire. Looting done, they then start exploring the room.

They first open the glass tubes, pull out the three bodies, and pile them up with the Salasans. They next turn their attention to the enclosed area in the center of the room, still emitting beams of light.

There are glass panels on the side of the enclosure. Mortimer attempts to smash one, but it seems to have no effect. Johann and Torinn can manipulate it in a way that finally causes the door to open.

This turns out to be another security corridor, but there seems to be no way to open or close the doors from the inside. Torinn and Johann enter then Syrvelse uses the glass panel to close the outer door and open the inner one.

Inside, they find several gems sitting in holders while lights from a complex series of lenses and mirrors focus on them. Torinn attempts to take one of the gems, but his hand passes into the beam, and he suddenly feels pain as if it were freezing. He pulls his hand back.

The two turn their attention to the lenses and mirrors and smash them. The light fades, and they can retrieve the three gems. They then pound on the door until Syrvelse hears them and lets them out. Once they are out, Mortimer uses a Tingler to destroy all the glass panels.

They then start to explore the rest of the complex. They realize that they have been inside for a while and need to make sure that no one comes in to find them as they loot and smash the rest of the facility. Mortimer goes back to the showroom and says he will stay there while the others proceed.

The others go deeper into the complex. When they come to the yellow line on the floor, they step across it without thinking. Torinn, in the lead, is immediately hit with an electrical discharge.

The party falls back, and Torinn attempts to make the hand gesture he saw Salasan make but cannot remember it correctly and is shocked a second time when he tries to cross. Fortunately, Syrvelse manages to remember the correct gesture, and they continue exploring.

They come to the operating room area but decide to take a corridor they had not explored on their tour. This leads them to a room with two large pieces of machinery with an electrical arc passing between them. Unable to determine what to do with it, they attack the machines and smash them. The arc stops, and all of the lights in the facility go out.

The party pauses briefly. Johann and Syrvelse have darkvison but Torinn does now. They decide to continue further, with Johann and Syrvelse leading the way and Torinn following with a torch.

They pass through the operating room and into the next. Here, a tank in the middle of the room holds small, spherical bits of tissue. They realize these are the glands used by the polybodies and pull out and destroy as many as they can, then smash the tank.

They had earlier found a map of the complex and realize that there is only one room left, and it is blocked by one of those security corridors. They decide to retrieve Mortimer before entering this last room since they will be unable to retreat quickly if there is a threat inside. They return to the showroom to get Mortimer.
